APH1A (APH-1 homologous A, γ-secretase subunit) encodes an important subunit of the γ-secretase complex, which catalyzes the intramembrane cleavage of intrinsic proteins such as Notch receptor and APP (β-amyloid precursor protein). It has endopeptidase activity. It is expected to be involved in many processes, including the processing of Notch receptors and the formation of amyloid beta. APH1 may be the stable cofactor of presenilin high dimer and promote the formation of stable complex.
