GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is an enzyme about 37kDa that catalyzes the sixth step of glycolysis, thus breaking down energy and carbon molecules in glucose. In addition to this long-established metabolic function, GAPDH has recently been involved in several non-metabolic processes, including transcriptional activation, initiation of apoptosis, ER shuttle to Golgi vesicles and rapid axonal or axonal transport. The mechanism of the effect of GAPDH on cell proliferation is not clear, but a great deal of evidence has been obtained that various interaction partners of GAPDH include proteins, various types of RNA and telomere DNA. Diseases associated with GAPDH include schistosomiasis and Huntington's disease.
