IL1f9 (Interleukin-1 Family Member 9) also known as Interleukin-36 gamma(IL36G) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL36G gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the IL-1 cytokine family. This gene and eight other IL-1 family genes form cytokine gene clusters on chromosome 2. The activity of this cytokine is mediated by IL-1 receptor-like 2 (IL1RL2/IL1R-rp2) and specifically inhibited by IL-1 family 5 members (IL1F5/IL-1δ). It is reported that Il1f9 binds to IL1RL2/IL-36R receptors and activates NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways in target cells through cytokines that signal from them.
