PNMA1 (paraneoplastic Ma antigen 1) gene encodes a pro-apoptotic protein that can induce anti-neuronal antibodies (anti-Ma) in patients with paraneoplastic neurological diseases. Nuclear and cytoplasmic expression in several cell types, most abundant in neurons. The higher expression of PNMA1 is closely related to the size of the tumor. Inhibition of endogenous PNMA1 expression reduces cell viability and promotes apoptosis. Studies have shown that PI3K/AKT, MAPK/ERK pathway and anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family members may be involved in the survival-promoting and anti-apoptotic effects of PNMA1 on PDAC.
