DMC1 (DNA Meiotic Recombinase 1) is a protein encoded by the DMC1 gene in humans. The gene encodes a member of the recombinant enzyme superfamily (also known as DNA chain exchange protein). It is reported that this protein is evolutionarily conserved and essential for homologous recombination of meiosis, so it may play an important role in generating the diversity of genetic information. Alternative splicing leads to a variety of transcript variants. Diseases associated with DMC1 include infertility. The related pathways include meiosis, cell cycle and mitosis.
