ESRRG (estrogen related receptor γ) is a protein coding gene and a member of the orphan nuclear receptor family (NRs). It can transcriptively regulate the expression of many genes in the absence of natural ligands and play an important role in maintaining the basic biological activities of cells. It is reported that the family members encoded by this gene act as transcriptional activators of DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase 1 (Dnmt1) expression by directly binding to the response elements in the DNMT1 promoter, regulating cell proliferation and estrogen signal transduction in breast cancer, and negatively regulate osteoblast differentiation and bone formation induced by bone morphogenetic protein. In addition, more and more studies have shown that ESRRG is involved in the occurrence and development of tumors, including tumor cell metabolism, proliferation, metastasis and angiogenesis.
