Inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase 2 (IMPDH2) is a protein coding gene that belongs to the IMPDH/GMPR family. The NAD-dependent oxidation of inosine 5-monophosphate to xanthine 5-monophosphate was catalyzed by IMPDH2, and then converted to guanosine 5-monophosphate. IMPDH2 is a rate-limiting enzyme in the biosynthesis of guanine nucleotides from the head. Diseases related to IMPDH2 include Impdh2 enzyme activity and retinitis pigmentosa. In addition, IMPDH1 and IMPDH2 are the targets of MPA, an important immunosuppressive drug.
