MAPK1 (mitogen-activated protein kinase 1), also known as p42MAPK and ERK2, is a serine-threonine protein kinase that can be activated by different extracellular stimuli, such as cytokines, neurotransmitters, hormones, cell stress and cell adhesion. MAPK pathway is one of the common confluence pathways of cell proliferation, stress, inflammation, differentiation, functional synchronization, transformation, apoptosis and other signal transduction pathways.
