REV-erbβ, also known as NR1D2 (nuclear receptor subfamily 1, group D, member 2), is a protein that encodes the NR1D2 gene in humans. Rev-erbβ is a member of the Rev-ErbA transcription factor family. Like Rev-erbα, Rev-erbβ belongs to the nuclear receptor superfamily and can regulate gene expression by directly binding to its promoter. REV-ERBα is an important metabolic regulator, which is expressed in circadian rhythm in liver, muscle and pancreas. Rev-erbβ is also a gene regulated by circadian rhythm, and its mRNA is expressed rhythmically in synchronous cell cultures in vivo and serum.
